What is Dual Enrollment?
It is an opportunity for high school students in grades 9.5-12 to enroll in select undergraduate courses at Michigan State University while in high school to earn college credit before high school graduation.
Who is eligible?
Any U.S. based students in grades 9.5-12, that is enrolled in at least one class at their home school; and a 3.0 GPA or above.
I am homeschooled. How does Dual Enrollment work for me?
The process is the same as other students. When you apply you will select "homeschool" as your school and follow the directions moving forward.

How do I apply for Dual Enrollment?

Once I submit an application, am I accepted?
No, once your application is completed by you and your school, the application will go under review. You will receive a decision via email from MSU Admissions.
Do I need to apply every semester?
No, once you are accepted you will be able to enroll for future courses at MSU as a Dual Enrollment student in directly subsequent semesters. For example, if you enroll in a class in the Fall, you do not have to fill out another Dual Enrollment Application for the Spring. This also applies across academic years, if you are enrolled in Spring, you do not have to fill out another application for Fall. Instead, in both of these cases, simply follow the instructions on the Designated Course List for enrollment instructions.
What if I take a class in the Fall and do not take a class for the next three semesters and want to take another class the following Spring?
You will have to reapply for Dual Enrollment with our application and begin the process anew.
What if I drop all my classes in the Fall and want to take a class in the Spring?
You will have to reapply for Dual Enrollment with our application and begin the process anew.
I am graduating high school, can I do dual enrollment the summer before I start college?
No, you will no longer be eligible for Dual Enrollment with us. However, if you are accepted and going to MSU the following fall, you can apply for Spartan Early Start.
Courses and Registration
Am I allowed to take any course once I am accepted?
No, Dual Enrolled students must enroll in a course that is listed on the Designated Course List.
Can I use my AP scores for a course?
Yes, on our Designated Course List, courses will list the AP scores and courses that will be accepted as a prerequisite.
How do I apply my AP scores for a course?
Please contact the Department Contact that is listed on the Designated Course List, they will be able to assist you and help enroll you in a course.
What if I want to take a placement test?
You can, you will have to reach out to the Department Contact listed on the Designated Course List and they will be able to assist you.
How do I enroll in a course?
Once accepted and activating your MSU credentials, you can login at student.msu.edu to view and enroll in courses.
What if the course I want is full?
You may apply to be waitlisted for the course and check daily on any updates from MSU regarding the course, or choose a different section of the course that fits with your schedule.
Can I take online courses?
Yes, if the approved course in the Designated Course List has online options.
How many classes can I take?
Please consult with your high school counselor to determine how many classes they will approve for you.
Tuition and Billing
Who is responsible for tuition and fees?
Your high school may pay for all or a part of tuition, please consult with your counselor first before applying. You will be responsible for any remaining balance after school or state payment. For those at private schools, the state will be invoiced to pay.
If you are taking summer courses, you may be responsible for all tuition costs. Please consult with your high school counselor.
How can I view my billing statement?
Once accepted and activated your MSU credentials, you can login to student.msu.edu to view your invoices and can pay if you are paying any portion. If your school is paying for a portion, the school will be invoiced for their portion.
What does it mean there is a hold?
Your account may have a hold which may prevent you from enrolling in courses. Holds will be placed on student accounts when financial obligations are not met, you and/or your school will have to make sure payment has been made to MSU.
Do I need to pay for textbooks and other course materials?
You may have to pay for textbooks and other course materials, please consult with your high school if assistance is needed.
FERPA and Privacy
What is FERPA?
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects student educational records. Once you are accepted as a MSU Dual Enrollment Student, your academic and financial information cannot be shared with anyone, even if you are under 18 years of age. Parents and guardians cannot view your academic and financial information without your written permission.

Campus Safety and Parking

There are public parking lots and spaces on campus, any permit required spaces or lots will have a sign stating restrictions. Parking is not free on campus, there are pay by plate spaces throughout campus that you can park at. The SPOT ON Mobile App )Android and iPhone friendly) can be used to pay for parking on campus.
Testing Accommodations
Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) have limited testing space and are reserved most often for students who need assistive technology, readers, scribes, etc. Students must be "Separate Testing Room Eligible" to utilize RCPD testing spaces and before requesting should have exhausted all other options with instructors and their departments.

Will my MSU credits transfer to other colleges?
